The objective of this exercise is to teach patients how to reach a state of muscular relaxation on their own, through repeated exercises which allow patients to become aware of states of tension and states of relaxation in various muscle groups.
In this exercise, the patient will successively tighten and relax tense each muscle group. This will allow him to reach a state of full relaxation, both on the muscular level and on the psychological level.
Raise your shoulders as if they could touch your ears. Then let your shoulders drop, as though you were exhaling deeply…
Raise your shoulders again, and rotate them several times, then let your shoulders drop, as though you were exhaling deeply…
You are now becoming aware that all the tension in your muscles is flowing away. You feel relaxed… You can feel your hands, your forearms… your arms… the muscles of your face… the muscles of your forehead… the muscles around your eyes… your cheekbones… your cheeks…the muscles around your mouth, and those in the lower part of your face… the muscles of your neck, of your nape, of your shoulders… of your upper back.
Stay calm, and become aware of the state of relaxation that your upper body has reached. Stay calm, and become aware of this. You feel relaxed...
